The video is called “Global Feminism — Annie Lennox, The Circle & Apple Music.” A statement from Apple accompanies it:
“While we celebrate and acknowledge the advancement in women rights over the past 100 years, we must make sure it’s inclusive for all. This short film aims to highlight the injustices still experienced by millions of women and girls the world over – from misogyny, rape and violence to pay disparity.
“Every woman and girl, no matter where they live, no matter the color their skin, no matter what religious faith, no matter what – MUST have access to the same basic human rights. Global Feminists believe in equality of rights, with empowerment and justice made available for every woman and girl in every corner of the world. “
Partnership with Girls Who Code
This is just the latest way Apple is celebrating International Women’s Day. Last week, the company unveiled a new partnership with Girls Who Code to expand learning opportunities for young women.
The company will supply its Everyone Can Code curriculum to Girls Who Code, with the goal of teaching the Swift programming language to 90,000 girls across the U.S. Swift training will also be provided for club leaders.
In addition, the App Store is celebrating apps and games created by women. Every App of the Day featured in the U.S. during March highlights software founded, developed or led by a woman.
