Did Apple really lose an iPhone 5 prototype in a San Francisco tequila joint? It’s starting to look doubtful.

Either way, though, Apple wants to be better safe than sorry. That’s why they are looking for managers for their unreleased products security team.

Here’s the official job description:

The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the protection of, and managing risks to, Apple’s unreleased products and related intellectual property. Position will reside in Cupertino, California and will require up to 30% travel (international and domestic).

The individual will collaborate with other security managers by contributing to, and managing execution of, strategic initiatives set forth by Director, Global Security.

The ideal candidate has a proven record of:

Simultaneously working with multiple constituencies, balancing disparate priorities, problem solving in high-demand situations, defining and establishing attainable measures of success, and regularly achieving positive outcomes in large-scale business environments.

Accurately assessing physical and logical security implementations and making actionable risk management recommendations that consider impact on corporate culture, business operations, system architectures, manufacturing processes, and employee workflows.

Formulating, and successfully implementing, a variety of security technologies utilizing industry-recommended practices and/or risk frameworks.

Building and maintaining trusted relationships with internal and external business partners.

Mitigating risks associated with multi-tiered electronics supply chain.

Team leadership and contribution in a matrixed environment.

Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.

Strong analytic skills.

Conduct and manage large-scale security and risk assessments.

Design sustainable strategies to mitigate risk and define associated metrics to measure overall performance.

Experience developing and delivering security awareness programs.

Strong, practical understanding of strengths and weaknesses of enterprise risk management frameworks and international security standards.

Solid project management and engagement management skills.

Advanced degree, such as M.S. in Risk Management, Information Assurance, Security Management or equivalent degree.

CPP, PSP, CISSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC or equivalent certification.

5+ years of security assessment and/or audit experience.

Oh come on, just let me do it.

The only things I’ve lost in a bar is money, sobriety, and dignity. Never my iPhone!

The only way to keep them from losing the prototypes is to a) handcuff it to them, as the picture suggests, or b) have an armed guard accompany them at all times. Or maybe a bracelet they must wear that will sound a siren if the prototype and bracelet are separated by more than a few feet?

    or….you know…make a rule that they can’t get drunk w/ ’em…just sayin

Nice attempt at a hit foddering joke. But this position isn’t new and isn’t about the prototypes. It’s about all the alleged info leaks from suppliers etc and about internal security issues like employees helping themselves to things like free headphones meant for customers at the Genius Bar or copying software off their computers to avoid paying, for example, $500 for Logic Studio

I don’t understand how they lose their phones. It has to be on purpose. I’ve never once left my phone somewhere – even on nights that I drank way too much. And if I was in possession of a handset that was not yet released, I would be sure that I’d keep it even more safe.
