Apple has issued a No Power Issue service program affecting a “very small percentage” of M2 Mac minis. The affected units may unexpectedly fail to power on without warning.

The issue only appears to affect the 2023 M2 Mac mini and no other generation.

Some M2 Mac mini at risk of power failure

Apple says it manufactured the affected Mac mini units between June 16 and November 23, 2024. If you own an M2 Mac mini, use the company’s Serial Number checker on the service page to see if your device qualifies.

If affected, take your M2 Mac mini to the nearest Apple retail store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for servicing. You won’t have to pay any repair fees for this; Apple will cover the repair for free.

The company will cover affected Mac mini units under the program for up to three years from their original retail purchase date. Apple launched the M2 Mac mini in January 2023. Even if you bought the machine on launch day, you still have several months to take it in for repair.

Service program extends worldwide but with a catch

If you already repaired your M2 Mac mini for a similar power issue, contact Apple and request a possible refund.

While the repair program extends worldwide, Apple may, in some cases, restrict the repair to the original country of purchase. Additionally, the company notes that this service program does not extend the Mac mini’s warranty in any way.

Do note that if your Mac mini has any physical damage or unauthorized hardware upgrades, Apple may refuse to repair it. For physical damage, you may need to get the issue resolved first by paying for it.
