Apple didn’t infringe on Samsung patents, and therefore won’t have to pay any damages, a Tokyo District Court said Tuesday.
Apple had been accused of infringing on data communication patents belonging to Samsung, which featured in Apple’s iPhone 4s, iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
“We are disappointed by the court’s decision,” Samsung noted in a statement. “Upon a thorough review of the ruling, we will determine which measures to take, including an appeal.”
Apple made no comment about the verdict.
Samsung and Apple have been locked in patent disputes for the past several years. Apple has accused Samsung of “slavishly copying” its devices, although both companies have scored victories in the ongoing patent litigation. In November last year, Samsung was ordered to pay Apple $930 million for damages related to patent infringement.
