The beat goes on for Apple as the tech giant continues to increase Mac sales amid declining PC demand. The release of a new MacBook Air and the long-awaited Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion” software pushed U.S. Mac sales 26 percent higher during the first portion of the three-month September quarter, Wall Street experts say.
The new product releases converts into Mac sales more than six-times that of PC rivals, fueled by the July 7 launch of Lion, as well as refreshed MacBook Airs and Mac minis, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. Apple will probably meet Wall Street’s consensus for 4.5 million Mac sales during the quarter, he said. However, Munster warns investors the early sales boost is likely to fade as Apple enters later stages of the quarter.
“These tailwinds will fade throughout the September quarter and year-over-year compares get slightly tougher in the last two months of the quarter,” the analyst writes.
Despite the caution, Barclays’ analyst Ben Reitzes believes Mac sales growth for the quarter will hit 18 percent year-over-year – and that is conservative despite a slowing world economy. “We believe Apple will continue to gain share in Macs over the long term even as the iPad grows,” he tells investors.
I’m not certain Apple will face a tougher time posting growth in the later months of the September financial quarter, given the built-in sales opportunities of back-to-school and early holiday spending. At this point, Apple is only competing with itself, an enviable position for PC makers searching for a lifeboat.

Solid growth despite the fact that jackass hedge fund managers say that Apple has very limited growth potential. I think it’s those fund managers’ brains that are limited in growth potential.
I just paíd $20.82 for an íPad 2.64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasoníc Lumíx GF 1 Cámera that we got for $38.79 there arriving tomorrow by UP S.I will never pay such expensive retail príces in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LCD T V to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.

Well, I think it can be attributed to one thing.
Economy.
Those who have money will always have money. And those are the ones who will more likely pick up an mac product, since they have more disposable income.
But, those who don’t have the money or less money, tend to be the ones who the economy impacts the most, and those are the ones who can’t afford a mac, therefore a PC. So, instead of replacing their PC on a regular basis, they basically are going to pick up a new PC when the old one dies.
And this is not in the computer world as well. Cars are another prime example. Who are bringing in records sales that somehow seem to be against the economy? The luxurious car companies. About all, if not all are bringing record sales, profits and such. Which automobile manufactures are somewhat struggling? the ones who don’t have the luxurious fleets or as luxurious fleets as the luxurious car companies.
So basically what can be said is that the people who have the money and the disposable incomes are buying macs and upgrading/replacing them on a regular basis, while the people who don’t have the money, tend to buy PC’s and instead of replacing/upgrading them on a regular basis, they basically get a new machine when the old one breaks.
So to some it up
Apple success = People who have money (disposable income) most likely are buying Apple products and replacing/upgrading their products on a regular basisPC downhill slide = People who don’t have the are not replacing/upgrading their products as regularly and most likely are using it until it dies and then purchasing a new computer.
You would think that common sense would tell you people who have money will always have money and the poor economic times probably won’t effect them or as much as someone who dosen’t have the money. But then again, I guess it dosen’t make a great sounding title or story/news article.

I don’t agree that buying a Mac ia all about having more money. Macs are not that much pricier than PCs and some people just prefer the ease of use of Macs. When ya gotta have it, ya gotta have it!
Let me tell you something Ed, it sure as hell shouldn’t have anything to do with Lion. If the developers over at apple don’t hurry up and get this clunky thing off of it’s fat furry ass and make it act the way it should, I’m going to be joining quite a few others and dust off my Snow Leopard disc and party like it’s 2009.
I’m running 10.7.1, point 1 was about a 15 meg update that didn’t add anything but a number behind a decimal point, in my opinion. Where the hell is expose the way it should be, you know, FUNCTIONAL? Why do I have to download a 3rd party app to get launch pad to be work the way it should from the start, by letting you pick what apps will be up there? (Don’t get me wrong, I use my uninstallers and chess apps all the time.) Why in god’s name did this OS install duplicates of fonts that Make everything in Safari show up as a bunch of “A’s” with boxes all around them? Where did the icon resize bar thingy go that was there in icon view so I could resize my folders when I needed to? Why in the hell didn’t Apple have a “how-to” listed right on their website about how to burn this cat to a DVD so that when I need to run disk utility, I actually can.. and be able to fix a problem? In fact, the only good thing I can say about this OS is that it isn’t Windows, which isn’t as much of as compliment as I should be able to give this polished up turd.
I’ve ran Panther, Tiger, Leopard and snow Leopard, and I’ve never been so pissed off at Apple in my life, save for when I was on a beige box in 4th grade and the thing couldn’t pronounce my last name right, but that is a story for another day. I don’t think that Lion being on a Mac is making more people buy them, I just think it’s a coincidence, and if it ain’t, then Ed, I’m pretty sure that the Mac community’s gene pool has been diluted by one to many PC peoples.
apple is lessing more macs because they are less durable than they were before. My good old dual g4 still runs, i already burned 3 intel macs in the last 5 years…
Programmed Obsolescence…
complete bullsh**. I have loved Macs since way back when they almost went under. I got an education loan to purchase mine. It was $4000 at the time. I got it cause I love Apple not because I am rich, I am not. I know people that puchase BMW and keep them until they are not worth fixing anymore. I know people that buy a Mac and keep them 6+ years before upgrading. I know people that buy a PC cause “they don’t anything that warrants the money for a Mac”. I know people that buy a PC cause they “don’t know anything about a Mac”. So Mr. Knowitall………..you FAIL.
No rich boy here. I don’t make a mint. I bought my first one when I was at my lowest financially. When I had good money coming in… I bought only Windows systems. Spent a ton on upgrades. Got a bit sick of it.
Since I bought my first Mac, a MacBook, I have not upgraded it other than HD and memory. A used iMac the same. I see no need to buy a Windows PC again ever.
Why did I buy a Mac? Because it’s Unix based, and Unix is rock solid. I was tired of Windows crashes and wanted a change. I have not been disappointed, and have since questioned why I was using Windows, which I have used since 1988.
Your assertion is a complete fail. Nothing you have said is in any way factual. It is simply your deluded fantasy. Hate Apple for whatever ‘reasons’ you have, but those with brains will continue to move to Apple for its proven virtues.
My new MacBook Air 13″ arrived today, three days after being ordered online. So, I’ve done my part.
I’m not a radical fanboy, like the other two, but I do disagree with you.
Apple’s largest market in their OS X machines are notebooks. The majority of people who purchase their notebooks are students. I pretty sure if you look up the term “Student,” it’ll read “some po’ ass bitch who needs to get a job to pay off student loans.” In other words: students aren’t rich, yet are Apple’s biggest consumer base.
I disagree. Many of us, and by us I mean the everyday people not only mac users save their money to buy something they want. Things they find fit themselves. Things they like. And if that’d mean cutting down trips to cafeteria and bring packed lunch to work then so be it.
Some would say most mac users drank the apple kool-aid too much that they blindly buy a computer that other other brands can give them the same thing for a lesser price. But then again why people buy Nike when they can opt for a hypothetical Shanghai Footwear from when the two protect your feet but the latter brand is priced way cheaper? It’s the little Nike extras that people find them appealing, hence the purchase.
The same goes for the Mac-PC analogy. It’s a matter of how you would prefer the way of working with your machine that determines your choice. Don’t ignore us who save. We have dreams too :p
