Apple’s yearly Back to School promo will supposedly go live in the US later this month. Like every year, the company will bundle gift cards with selected devices as part of the promo.

Additionally, Apple will double the carrier promos in its retail stores from late June to boost iPhone sales.

Apple’s Back to School promo will go live soon

Every year, Apple launches a Back to School promo in the U.S. and select other markets right before the academic session starts. It provides students and teachers with an additional incentive to take advantage of educational pricing on hardware.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reveals that Apple’s Back to School promo will go live on June 17 this year. The program will likely go live in the U.S. first, followed by other markets in the coming weeks.

Typically, the company bundles an Apple Gift Card with the purchase of qualifying Macs, iPads, and other devices. Apple will follow the same strategy this year. And as before, the company will likely exclude its latest iPhones and Macs from the promo.

Big change coming to Apple’s carrier promos

Alongside its Back to School promo, Apple will also reportedly double the number of carrier promos it runs in its retail stores to boost iPhone sales. More importantly, Apple will change how carrier promos work. Until now, it required users to trade in an existing phone to be eligible for carrier promos.

This will change starting June 26, when the company begins allowing carrier promotions even without a trade-in, or with the exchange of a faulty, non-functional device. Gurman says this will “double the number of promotions Apple can handle.” The company hopes to boost sluggish iPhone sales with this move.
