Apple launches its new Manufacturing Academy in Detroit on August 19, offering free training programs designed to help American businesses adopt advanced manufacturing techniques, the iPhone giant said Tuesday.
“Apple works with suppliers in all 50 states because we know advanced manufacturing is vital to American innovation and leadership,” said Sabih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer. “With this new programming, we’re thrilled to help even more businesses implement smart manufacturing so they can unlock amazing opportunities for their companies and our country.”
Apple Manufacturing Academy opens August 19 in Detroit
The initiative, first announced in April, represents part of Apple’s commitment to invest over $500 billion in the United States over the next four years in support of American manufacturers.
The academy will host small and medium-sized businesses from across the country for workshops led by Apple experts, developed in partnership with Michigan State University. Companies can learn to implement artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing methods to modernize their operations.
And this isn’t the first collaboration between Apple and MSU. The two organizations, with support from the Gilbert Family Foundation, operate the Apple Developer Academy in downtown Detroit. Since 2021, the program has graduated approximately 200 participants per year. Another cohort will complete the program this summer.
Comprehensive training programs
Workshop sessions will cover machine learning and deep learning applications in manufacturing, automation techniques, data utilization for quality improvement, and digital technology integration.
Beyond the in-person courses, Apple engineers are already providing consulting services to American companies, available both virtually and on-site to help optimize supply chains.
Expanding access to training
Later this year, the academy plans to introduce virtual programming featuring a skills development curriculum. These online courses will teach essential workplace capabilities including project management and manufacturing process optimization, making the training accessible to more businesses nationwide.
Companies interested in participating can register for courses or consultations at manufacturingacademy.msu.edu. The academy builds on Apple’s established history of supporting American innovation and advanced manufacturing across all 50 states.
