Apple is planning to make a big advertising push during the 2016 UEFA European Championship football tournament, and Raheem Sterling could be the star of the company’s ads.
Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling is reportedly close to signing a deal with Apple to become its first ever global sports ambassador from England, but the entire deal hinges on whether the 21-year-old phenom actually makes the team.
Sterling will be paid £250,000-a-year to join Apple’s roster of sports ambassadors, reports the Sun. Serena Williams, Steph Curry, and FC Barcelona star Neymar Jr are also part of Apple’s sports team and have been featured in the company’s ads in the past.
If Sterling is healthy enough to play in the tournament in France this summer he’ll likely appear in a number of ads and promos for Apple and Beats. Sterling is expected to be out for the next eight weeks due to a groin strain.
England’s manager Roy Hodgson has said he’ll keep Sterling on the Euro 2016 squad as long as he’s healthy enough to play one of the squad’s friendlies in the lead up. The tournament kicks off on June 10th and lasts until July 10th.
