Apple dedicated its website homepage to Martin Luther King Jr. Monday, as it has done on his national holiday each year since 2015. This year a free book of the slain Civil Rights movement icon’s essential works and a Time to Walk podcast with King’s daughter, Bernice A. King, are included.
“We honor Dr. King and reflect upon his life and legacy,” Apple said in print alongside a pixellated, constellation-like image of a smiling MLK against a black background filled with stars.

The United States first celebrated King’s birthday as a federal holiday on the third Monday of the month in January 1986. And since 2015, Apple has staged what it calls a homepage takeover for the holiday, aka MLK Day.
As per usual, Apple CEO Tim Cook also paid tribute to King.
“Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service, his commitment to justice, and his belief that every one of us has the power to make a difference, because as he reminded us, ‘everybody can be great, because everybody can serve,'” Cook wrote Monday on X.
Such takeovers are relatively rare, typically reserved for major product or programming releases.

Relatively recently, Apple staged a homepage takover when former President Jimmy Carter passed away at 100. And it posted one in 2021 marking the 10th anniversary of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ death.
And of course, the company remade its homepage for last year’s MLK Jr. Day, when it featured inspirational quotes, an article and a free book by King.

As in recent years, Apple offered a free book as part of its homepage homage in 2026. This time it’s a compilation of essential works written by the civil rights leader. And this year, you can also enjoy a free Time to Walk podcast narrated by King’s daughter and youngest child, lawyer and minister Bernice A. King. She was 5 years old when her father was assassinated.
