As it turns out, not only is Apple not pursuing an entry into the UltraHD TV market, but it stopped development on the project last year.
That’s not to say that it won’t ever grace your living room (even more than it already is), but maybe don’t chuck out your old TV just yet.
Despite the spirited wishes of investor Carl Icahn, Apple has no current plans to enter the crowded TV market at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, the Wall Street Journal is reporting.
Instead, look forward to an update to the Apple TV streaming box, which will include its own App Store and Siri integration.
The UltraHD TV was just the latest market entry people expected from Apple; it’s already entered the wearable space with its new smartwatch, and an Apple Car is on a drawing board somewhere.
If Apple changes its mind about the whole super-giant TV thing, it has the engineers and tech aspirations to back it up. It has patents on display methods involving DVR, virtual reality, and displays made of freakin’ light.
For now, however, the only Apple TV you can look forward to is the one that plugs into your sad, regular, laser-free set.

Yeah, but it won’t be an Xbox One.
The point is that like most “new innovations from Apple”, someone else did it first, then then they get the credit.
As much as I’d like an Apple TV screen I find myself not wanting one by a greater margin. TVs are legendary in their lifespans. The idea of plunking down Apple prices for a tv that would be obsolete in a few years makes my consumer blood run cold. I expect this is part of the argument Apple had to deal with internally. Better they concentrate some of those brains and a few dumper trucks of that money mountain they’re sitting on into the Apple TV box instead. If they really want to own the living room then they’re already half way there with their mac mini, ipad, iphone and Apple TV. They just need to apply some decent time and effort to their ‘hobby’ project.
