A 21-year-old Amazon employee in India has been arrested for allegedly stealing $12,500 worth of electronics — including numerous Apple devices — while working in the packing department of the company’s warehouse.
Pramod Bhamble placed orders himself, but instead of packing the correct products, he stuffed the container full of the equivalent weight of iPhones, iPads, cameras and high-end watches before mailing the order to his home.
This was to get around Amazon’s standard security system whereby orders are weighed before being dispatched, to check that the package has the same weight as its supposed contents. One order apparently filled an entire pressure cooker box.
“Since he was employed with the packaging department, he had easy access to order numbers,” police said.
Once Bhamble received the orders he then attempted to sell them for cheaper prices on the black market.
It’s not clear from the story how long Bhamble had been stealing from Amazon, but he was eventually caught after cops received a tip about what he was doing.
