AirTag 2 rumors: What to expect
AirTag offers a simple, reliable way to keep track of your belongings. You can attach one to anything that gets misplaced frequently (like a set of keys) or to something that would be a big problem if it went missing (like luggage). Then you can locate the item using the Find My app on your iPhone. This works by making a Bluetooth connection between the tracking tag and your handset. (This method also works with rival trackers.)
But AirTag goes one better: It also communicates with your iPhone via ultra-wideband. Unlike Bluetooth, this is directional, enabling the Precision Finding feature in the Find My app to point you directly in the direction of the lost item.
Unreleased iOS 26 code leaked to MacWorld indicates that AirTag 2 will offer enhanced Precision Finding as well as improved support for tracking while the tag is moving. It’s also expected to work better in crowded spaces. Previous rumors indicate that the device will include a better UWB chip, surely the reason these features are getting upgrades.
In addition, the tag will also be better at reporting its exact battery level, according to Macworld. And it’ll have “an improved pairing process,” though no details of that were shared.
It’s possible some of these enhancements will come to the original AirTag, too.
Other AirTag 2 rumors
Unconfirmed reports about AirTag 2 have been circulating for months. Earlier rumors indicate the tag will offer better Bluetooth performance.
And while it’s expected to retain the same design as the current model, even staying compatible with accessories designed for the original, Apple will supposedly make it more difficult to remove the tracking tag’s speaker so creeps can’t use it for stalking.
The product is expected to launch in 2026. Actually, it had been rumored for 2025, but time is running out for that. The AirTag 2 price will likely stay the same as the current version: $29.
You can attach an AirTag to anything that gets misplaced frequently, like a keyring. Or something important you’d be very sad if it goes missing, like your luggage. Then locate it with the Find My app on iPhone.
