Valery Rozov is running out of mountains off which to jump.
The Red-Bull-pedaling daredevil added Mount Kilimanjaro to a recent jump in a wingsuit, traveling a horizontal distance of nearly two miles in a minute-long free fall before pulling his parachute to safely land at Barranco Camp. He was greeted by several Africans, who hoisted him on their shoulders.
“The locals had heard what I was up to and were pretty impressed,” Rozov, 50, told redbull.com.
The Russian BASE jumper will leap off mountain tops the way most of us step off a porch. In 2013, he jumped 23,687 feet from Mt. Changtse, a peak of Mount Everest, and successfully made the first wingsuit flight off that mountain.
Rozov said he had been preparing for a full year to make the Feb. 18 jump, redbull.com reported. After summiting 19,340 feet up Africa’s highest point, Rozov had to wait three days for conditions to be ideal.
Thanks to the point-of-view cameras attached to Rozov, we can feel what it’s like to fly without taking the risk.
