Apple’s new 3D Touch technology will work even if you cover your display with a protective screen, says Apple’s senior VP of marketing, Phil Schiller.
Because the new iPhone 6s can sense the amount of pressure exerted on its display, some Apple fans have worried that the new Peek and Pop technology won’t work with screen protectors. To get to the bottom of the issue, 3D Techtronics emailed Schiller and got an answer straight from Apple that there’s nothing to worry about.
Here’s what Phil said:
3D Touch will be available exclusively on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus once the devices launch on September 25th. The new technology will provide users with a new surface-level UI that gives shortcuts to various functions on the home screen and within various apps.

Still didn’t answer the question. If the screen on the 6s has to flex so the sensors below can pick up the degree of flex. How can the phone screen flex if I lay a piece of protective and rigid glass on top? Protective film may be okay, but I think it would inhibit the flexing of the 6s screen and perhaps make the 3D touch feature not as sensitive as it could be without the film.
This article didn’t state everything. On another site, I read that Phil Schiller said as long as the screen protectors conformed to Apple’s standards and were no more than 0.3mm thick, they’d work.
I’ve never actually used or even seen a glass screen protector in person, but I’d assume those ones probably won’t and you’d likely be limited to the softer, more film like protectors. That’s just an assumption though.
