Have you read the new Tim Cook book yet? Photo: Kristal Chan/Cult of Mac
The first-ever biography of Apple CEO Tim Cook hits bookstores today, and itâs written by none other than Cult of Mac founder, Leander Kahney.
I havenât heard from Leander in god knows how long while heâs been writing this book. But based on the early reviews, it appears like it was all worth it. No one has written a full book about Cook until now. Leanderâs book, Tim Cook: The Genius Who Took Apple to the Next Level, details how Cook took on Steve Jobsâ mantle. While nearly any other human would have crumbled under that pressure, Cook thrived.
Early reviews for the book have been coming in all week, and so far theyâre pretty positive. Here are some of the highlights.

The original iPhone was one of the best-looking iPhones. Photo: Apple
One of the top Apple product designers of the past two decades is parting ways with the company, according to a new report that reveals thereâs been a big shake-up on Jony Iveâs team.
Christopher Stringer was the lead designer of the original iPhone and was one of the top two or three designers on Appleâs industrial design team. Now he has apparently decided to jettison from the company right before Apple moves into its new spaceship.

What vaulted Apple from its humble Silicon Valley origins to the absolute top of the business world? From its first desktop computer in 1976 to todayâs category-crushing Apple Watch, the company is intensely focused on creating technology that will delight the masses.
That vision is best exemplified by Appleâs five most important products, which Iâve rounded up in this weekâs edition of Kahneyâs Korner. Some made the list for reasons that might surprise you.
There are a lot of Apple skeptics out there. CNBC thinks the new iPhone 6 models are nothing special, and dis the Apple Watch because it doesnât work with Android. Watch Cult of Mac editor and publisher Leander Kahney set them straight in the video above. See also our report card for Tim Cookâs first three years as CEO.
Appleâs Industrial Design studio is one of the most secretive corporate locations in the world, where even some of the companyâs own high ranking execs canât get in unless Jony Ive wants them to. So with the ID group barred tighter than a nuclear lockdown, how does one go about getting secrets about the design processes at Apple for a book?
Bloomberg TVâs Emily Chang sat down with Leander on her show this afternoon to talk about some of the secrets he discovered about Jony Ive and the design team at Apple for his new book. Not only did The Gov dive into how hard it is to cover Apple, but he also dished on rumors heâs heard about Ive butting heads with top execs who have left Apple â and not just The Felt King, aka Scott Forstall â as well as how Tim Cook has become the ultimate peace keeper at Apple in contrast to Jobs diabolical ways of pitting execs against each other.
Weâve dedicated this issue of the magazine to Sir Jony Ive, the Apple designer whose imagination brings us all the gadgets we love.
Inside, youâll find an exclusive excerpt from publisher Leander Kahneyâs brand-spanking-new book âJony Ive: The Genius Behind Appleâs Greatest Productsâ along with the story of how Leander met Ive for the first time. (It turns out Jony is nice, especially to forgetful reporters.) The book excerpt takes you back to where it all began: in the UK where a young Jony started working with his father in the garage.
As we do every week, we also bring you the best in new apps, picks from whatâs worth your while in books, music and movies in iTunes and our exclusive Apple genius column delves into getting hired and what to do if you happen to find love while getting your iPhone repaired.
If youâre looking to gain an insightful perspective as to how Apple has become the most valuable brand in the world youâll get that and so much more with these two genius titles written by Leander Khaney.
Leander has been a technology writer and author for decades and has been following Apple since before Steve Jobsâ return. He was a former managing editor at Wired News and nowâs heâs moved onto running his own successful Apple-centric blog â the very one youâre reading right now â Cult of Mac. Heâs written these two books to help us all gain a better understanding of how Appleâs dynasty has been created and he does an excellent job at doing so. And now you can get both of them for just $19.57 during this limited time offer from Cult of Mac Deals.

Thereâs not many people out there who can claim that their iTunes library is in pristine shape. In fact, more people will admit that itâs a bit of a mess â or even a chaotic one. Thatâs where TuneUp Version 3 can come to the rescueâŚno matter how messy your iTunes is. And Cult of Mac Deals has it for only $29.99 for a limited time.
As the popularity of the Mac grows, so does the probability of malware and viruses being created and spread for the platform. Gone are the days where one can say that the Mac is not susceptible to these sorts of threats.
