Google Doubles Down On Social With Photovine iOS App

To accompany its upcoming photo sharing service, Google has just launched an official Photovine app for iOS which it dubs “a fun way to learn more about your friends, meet new people, and share your world like never before.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the service, it’s a whole new way of sharing photos that I personally haven’t seen from another service before. It begins with what Google calls a ‘photovine’: a group of photos around a single shared caption. Users start a new ‘vine’ by posting a photo accompanied by a caption; then, their friends add their own photos to the vine and it continues to grow.

Google says:

A vine is like a constantly growing family of photos connected through a common caption created by you, your friends, and people all over the world. Some examples of vines could be: “What Weekends Are Made Of”, “Secret Stuffed Animal”, “Party People”, or, “Love of My Life”. As people add photos to vines, they tell their own stories about the moments, images, and ideas that define our lives in a way that’s social, creative, and fun.

Before you rush off to download it, however, you’ll need an invite to the service, which you can request now from the Photovine website.

Meanwhile, we continue to wait patiently for the app that goes with Google’s other new service, Google+, which should be here any day now.

It’s truly amazing to watch Google give so much stuff away and still make tons of money!

This is the prettiest thing ever released by Google. Why can’t all their products have this nice a design?

That’s why I’m a BIG supporter of Google, nothing is wrong with making money, but I love the Google approach make a product that is free to the end users or as affordable as possible and charge the corporates/individuals who stand to earn most from its use!! WIN WIN!!!

The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5
