‘Chainsaw Warrior,’ A Single Player Board Game From The 80s, Coming To iOS Later This Year

By •

promo_top

Auroch Digital just announced the development of a digital version of a classic Games Workshop board game from 1987, Chainsaw Warrior, coming to iPad and Android soon.

The original board game is one of the only single-player board games I know of, putting you in the role of the only hope for humanity as scary creatures come flooding through a dimensional rift in the heart of Manhattan, circa 2032. Of course, you’re the guy that must come out of retirement to battle the evil monsters, which have already destroyed the world’s bravest and brightest. It’s up to you to chainsaw your way through wave after wave the evil hordes. Wait, that sounds like a video game, doesn’t it?

‘Shadowrun’ Launch Trailer Has Us Shivering With Anticipation For July 25th Launch On iOS & Mac

By •

Shadowrun Returns

Back in 1989, I was a young punk in college who read science fiction voraciously and had a history of playing Dungeons and Dragons. I know, slow down ladies, what a catch.

Anyway, it was with unreserved glee that I started playing Shadowrun in those days, a table top role-playing game in the vein of D&D that included computers, hacking, and all sorts of megacorps, like a William Gibson novel gone magical.

Flash forward to now, and–after a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign–Shadowrun Returns is headed to iOS, Mac, Android and PC. There’s a sweet launch trailer that just came out today, and a release date of just one week from now, on July 25th. Holy smoking dragon hackers!

‘Bloons TD Battles’ Brings Dart-Throwing, Shuriken-Tossing Wizard Monkeys To The Multiplayer Tower Defense Party

By •

bloons td battles

New Zealand-based games developer Ninja Kiwi just released Bloons TD Battles to the iOS App Store. It’s a faster, more multiplayer take on popular Bloons TD, a single-player fixed path tower defense game with loads of depth, with wacky monkeys that stand in for towers as well.

The new, free Bloons TD Battles lets you go head to head against other random or known opponents on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, while using ninja monkeys, sniper monkeys, and helicopters (among other equally bizarre characters and items) to keep your enemy’s “bloons” from making their way to your base.

Bullet Hell ‘Bit.Trip Fate’ Hits The Mac App Store, Puts Commander Video On Rails

By •

BTF_PCScreens04

As the fifth and penultimate game in the indie-darling Bit.Trip series, Bit.Trip Fate has a lot to live up to. Originally released on Nintendo’s WiiWare platform and still part of Bit.Trip collections on the Wii and the 3DS, Bit.Trip Fate has finally, err, tripped its way over to the Mac App Store to join the other four games in the series already there on our favorite platform.

And we’re pretty darn happy about that.

Square Enix Changes Mind Over ‘Deus Ex: The Fall,’ Will Let Jailbreakers Shoot Guns

By •

DeusEx-the-fall-03

Yesterday, we told you about Eidos and Square Enix’s decision to not let jailbroken iOS devices–something that’s completely legal–play the game.

Today, however, after an apparent onslaught of media and customer complaint, Square Enix has reversed it’s choice.

Upcoming Worms 3 Is Headed To iOS Exclusively In Q3 2013

By •

Worms-3-Boggy-B

Classic video game series, Worms, is getting a new installment on iOS in Q3 of this year with Worms 3 set to blast its way to the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch in a couple of months.

Interestingly, Developer Team 17 has made this one as an iOS exclusive, skipping other platforms it’s been on since the first Worms came out in 1995, like the Mac, PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and various handheld gaming devices.

The new game follows up the 1997 Worms 2 game, making Worms 3 a hotly anticipated title for iOS, indeed, as there have only been a bunch of add-on and experimental 3D games in the series since then.

10-Year Anniversary Sale For Knights Of The Old Republic On iPad And Mac

By •

kotor-4

Obviously, the 10-year-old Star Wars RPG Knights of the Old Republic has stood the test of time — and then some — if we’re still playing it today (and we are, in part thanks to its recent iPad port).

Now, almost ten years to the day after its debut on the Xbox in 2003 (it debuted on the PC later that year and on OS X in 2004), both the iPad and Mac versions are on sale.

Aspyr, the publisher behind the Apple versions of the game, even scored an interesting interview with James Ohlen, the game’s lead designer.

Pacific Rim doesn’t hit theaters until Friday, July 12th, but if you want to rage battle against Guillermo del Toro’s Kaiju monsters on your own the official tie-in game is now available on the App Store.

Eidos Will Sell ‘Deus Ex: The Fall’ To Jailbreakers, But Won’t Let Them Play

By •

k-bigpic

Deus Ex: The Fall came out yesterday, and the much-anticipated cyberpunk game was immediately met with lukewarm to mostly negative reviews for being a very bland game indeed. But that’s not the least of Deus Ex: The Fall’s problems. If you have a jailbroken device, the developers won’t let you play it at all… even if you’ve purchased it legally!

‘Deus Ex: The Fall’ Released A Day Early, Get Ready For Console-Level Gaming On The Go

By •

Deus Ex

Typically, US iOS apps and games are released into the App Store on Thursdays each week, though some apps of late have been going live on odd days of the week, perhaps to beat the Thursday glut.

Either way, Square Enix’s first Deus Ex game to launch as a full experience on iOS has gone live today, one full day earlier than expected. Deus Ex: The Fall is the highly anticipated new chapter in the Deus Ex franchise, and it’s coming to iPhones and iPads, rather than consoles or computers. This alone makes it something to pay attention to, let alone the gorgeous visuals and brand new entry in the series.

Sneak Peek At Morning Star Alpha: A Graphic Novel That Ties Into Upcoming iPad FPS Game

By •

MorningStarAlpha_2b

The folks at Industrial Toys have been busy. Their upcoming scifi first-person-shooter game continues to garner advance praise and anticipation from everyone, with good reason. The CEO of Industrial Toys is none other than Bungie (Halo) co-founder, Alex Seropian, and the team is an all-star cast of amazing talent working together to bring a core gaming experience to iPads this summer (we hope).

With all of that work in progress, the team somehow found time to make a brand new, amazing interactive graphic novel that contains not only the backstory to the game, but a ton of choices to make and characters to meet. These choices, and which characters you befriend, will have lasting effects in the actual game when it comes out later this season.

Pretty slick stuff, but the best part? This graphic novel is written by none other than John Scalzi (Old Man’s War, Redshirts) and illustrated by Mike Choi (Marvel Comics). You really need to check this thing out.

Gun Monkeys – Fling An Army Of Enjoyably Expendable Monkeys Into The Future

By •

gunmonkeys

You know what the world needs? More free energy sources. Also? We need more games with monkeys in.

Luckily, Gun Monkeys, the new platformer-shooter from Size Five Games, has both.

Lovingly narrated by British actor Kevin Eldon, Gun Monkeys involves a plot wherein you’ll need to send a bunch of monkeys to the distant future where things are super dangerous yet also incredibly full of free energy. To get the energy, you’ll need to send the monkeys. It’s that simple.

‘The Walking Dead: 400 Days’ Coming July 3rd To Mac, July 11 To iOS

By •

So scary.
So scary.

One of our picks for the top games of 2012 is The Walking Dead, Telltale Games’ brilliant video game translation of the award-winning comic book and TV show.

It’s getting a sequel, of sorts, in the form of The Walking Dead: 400 Days, a transitional piece between Seasons one and two of The Walking Dead game proper.

Today, IGN reported that 400 Days is indeed headed our way, with a Mac port slated for July 3rd, with only a short wait for an iOS version on July 11.
