Tim Cook is set to rake in around $120 million in Apple stock this week, thanks to another year well done as Apple CEO.

Cook will receive a maximum of $560,000 shares on Friday. This is split into two separate awards: 280,000 shares for his continuing service as Apple’s chief executive, and another 280,000 on condition that Apple’s stock market return over the past three years exceeds two-thirds of the other stocks in the S&P 500.

A 23-year-old iPhone X customer in Bangkok has apologized after a shocking video of him punching a female retail store employee in the face went viral on social media.

The customer, called Kritpan Kitjit, supposedly became enraged after claiming his iPhone X’s Face ID feature did not work correctly. Kitjit demanded a replacement handset, but was denied due to the fact that the complaint didn’t hold up to inspection.

The App Store is a big money spinner for Apple, but that could change if more developers, helped by regulatory intervention, push back against the commission that Apple currently takes.

In a note to clients, Macquarie Research analyst Ben Schachter suggests that this could cost Apple up to $16 billion annually. This follows news that Netflix is currently experimenting with a way to circumvent the cash it has to pay Apple.

Apple TV veteran leaves the company to join ‘social broadcasting’ startup

Jen Folse, the former Apple TV executive who is best known to Apple followers for her on-stage presentations at Apple events, has left the company for the startup Caffeine.

Caffeine is a social broadcasting platform for gaming, entertainment, and other artistic content. Folse will take the role as new Vice President of Product, helping to company to create its product roadmap, among other things.

Tim Cook has long talked about how he plans to give his entire fortune to charity — and a recent SEC filing shows that he’s living up to his word.

Recently, Apple’s CEO gave 23,215 Apple shares to an unspecified charity. At the current AAPL trading price, that’s almost $5 million.

Netflix wants to stop paying Apple a cut of its earnings

Netflix is among the highest-grossing apps in the App Store, but that might not be the case for much longer. That’s because the video streaming company is supposedly looking for ways to bypass iTunes so as to save itself the money that it currently pays Apple.

The decision is at least partially linked to Apple’s efforts in producing its own original video content, which would make it a direct competitor to Netflix.

The latest snatch-and-grab Apple Store robbery didn’t turn out all that well for the thieves.

Over the weekend, the Apple Store at The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks, California, was targeted by three men who walked in and began snatching products. But angry customers got involved, leading to all three would-be thieves being arrested.

It’s highly likely that we’ll see new Apple Watch Series 4 devices at next month’s Apple media event, and a new series of filings suggest that this is even more probable.

Filed with the Eurasian Economic Commission are six new model numbers for next-gen Apple Watches, all of which will run watchOS 5. While that doesn’t tell us too much about the new devices, it does suggest that they are on the way.

Apple pulls 25,000 apps from China’s App Store

Apple has pulled a massive 25,000 apps from its Chinese App Store following state media complaints about the company. At least 4,000 of these were tagged with the word “gambling,” which is illegal in China outside of state-sanctioned lotteries.

“Gambling apps are illegal and not allowed on the App Store in China,” Apple said in a statement. “We have already removed many apps and developers for trying to distribute illegal gambling apps on our App Store, and we are vigilant in our efforts to find these and stop them from being on the App Store.”

The Apple Store in Leidseplein square, Amsterdam was evacuated Sunday afternoon as the result of an apparent overheating iPad battery.

While the lithium-ion battery in the device did not explode or begin visibly smoking, it supposedly began emitting vapors which led to three Apple Store employees being check over on site by ambulance personnel.

Apple reassures customers after teenager hacked its servers

Apple has reassured customers that none of their private data was compromised after a 16-year-old teenager plead guilty to hacking into the company’s servers.

An Apple spokesperson said that, “[We] want to assure our customers that at no point during this incident was their personal data compromised.” The hacker in question managed to download 90 gigabytes of secure files.

New clue points to Apple Pencil coming to iPhone

Both of this year’s OLED iPhones will support the Apple Pencil, a new report suggests, citing “industry insiders.”

If true, this would represent the first time in Apple history in which the iPhone used a stylus, something that Steve Jobs was adamantly opposed to. Samsung’s iPhone rival, the Galaxy Note, has long shipped with a stylus called the S Pen.

An Australian teenager who repeatedly broke into Apple’s computer system is facing criminal charges after Apple contacted the FBI.

The teenager, who hasn’t been named for legal reasons, reportedly downloaded 90GB of secure files and accessed customer accounts. The information was uncovered in a raid on his family home in Melbourne, found in a computer folder called “Hacky hack hack.”

If a company made you $2.6 billion in a single day, you’d probably want to continue investing in it. That’s what Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway firm has done with Apple, according to its latest regulatory filing.

In the second quarter of 2018, Berkshire Hathaway boosted its stock in Apple by 5 percent, upping its holding from 239.6 million shares to 252 million. According to current valuation that means the firm’s Apple investment is worth around $47 billion.
