iPadOS 13.4 coming next week with mouse and keyboard enhancements

The 2020 iPad Pro announced Wednesday launches next week with iPadOS 13.4, and many recent tablets are getting upgrades, too. iPadOS 13.4 makes significant improvements to iPad mouse functionality, and also brings progress on external keyboard support.

iOS 13.4 for iPhone is also expected to launch next week. Both versions include iCloud Drive folder sharing and other changes.

UPDATE: Developers who don’t want to wait for the next iOS and iPadOS updates can download the “golden master” versions now by joining Apple’s beta program.

Apple documentary Beastie Boys Story won’t debut on Imax screens on April 2 as planned. The COVID-19 pandemic is shutting down too many theaters.

But the Spike Jonze biopic about the classic rap group will debut on the Apple TV+ streaming service April 24 as scheduled.

Movies Anywhere combines films bought through iTunes, Google Play, etc. into one service. And now it’s testing a new feature called Screen Pass that enables loaning your movies to other people.

It’s only in beta, and isn’t expected to be available to everyone until May. Which is too bad, because it would be really useful right now with so many in self isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus prompts Alto’s Adventure’s offer of free gaming for a week

Both Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey are free for a week to benefit anyone quarantined by the COVID-19 epidemic. The developer, Snowman, made the move to “bring a little calm into your homes during these difficult times.”

These endless runner snowboarding games are beautifully designed. Alto’s Odyssey even won an Apple Design Award.

A concept artists imagines a Mac mini Pro that can be upgraded simply by placing an SSD or GPU module on top of the main computer. And his basic design borrows quite a bit from the “cheese grater” Mac Pro that launched in 2019.

iPhone and Mac top Fortune’s list of ‘greatest designs of modern times’

Fortune asked experts what product designs they consider truly great, and Apple features very prominently in the responses. iPhone and Mac captured the top two places in the list of 100, and has four products in the top 20.

They beat out some other amazing designs, from Lego bricks and the 747 to the Apollo 11 spacecraft.

There are only a handful of these left. This particular unit appeared recently on the TV show Pawn Stars.

Internet service providers AT&T, Comcast, Cox, Verizon and many more have pledged to not cut off service from customers who can’t pay their bills because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Internet access is important during the crisis to keep the public informed, but also to let people work from home, attend school remotely, and keep in touch despite social distancing.

iPhone component supplies return to pre-COVID-19 levels, Foxconn says

It’s apparently nearly back to business as usual at Foxconn, the company that assembles most iPhones. Its general manager says plants in China and Vietnam are once again getting the components they need.

Production had been tremendously slowed by the COVID-19 outbreak in China, but the epidemic is now nearly over in that country.
