OpenAI is turning ChatGPT into a health companion with ChatGPT Health. This is a dedicated, privacy-focused experience designed to help you better understand your health and wellness data over time.

For iPhone users, ChatGPT Health can pull your health information from Apple Health to help make sense of your medical reports.

An AI-powered chatbot grounded in your health data

Chances are, you already turn to ChatGPT for health and wellness questions regularly. With health data scattered across PDFs, apps and online portals, ChatGPT often lacks the context needed to give personalized answers.

There’s also the privacy factor, as many people may not be comfortable sharing their health and medical data with ChatGPT.

OpenAI aims to address this issue with ChatGPT Health. It will act as a centralized layer on top of your existing health tools, helping make sense of all the data. You can connect it to your medical records and wellness apps such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal and others. More importantly, ChatGPT will ground its responses in this data.

ChatGPT can then help explain test results in a simple language, highlight patterns based on the data and even help prepare you for your next doctor visit.

Interestingly, Apple is also reportedly working on an AI-powered Health+ service that would build on its current wellness features.

Privacy-first approach

For privacy-conscious individuals, OpenAI states that ChatGPT Health operates in a separate, secure environment with data encryption and isolation. OpenAI doesn’t use ChatGPT Health chats for training.

ChatGPT Health also uses a separate memory system. This ensures that all health-related context stays contained within the Health experience, separate from your regular ChatGPT conversations.

You must sign up the waitlist to gain access to ChatGPT Health when it becomes available in beta. It will be available to ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users. However, the rollout excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

A wider expansion will occur in the coming weeks, including iOS and web users.
