Apple now offers new moms and dads a month of flex time after returning to work from paid parental leave after giving birth or adopting a child. The hope is there’ll be less stress for the new parents.
Apple offers parental leave and flextime
The iPhone maker provides 16 weeks of paid parental leave to both birth parents. And with today’s announcement, they can have four weeks during which they receive full-time pay, but can work part time, on their own schedule, as long as it’s approved by their manager.
The goal is to make the process of return to work less demanding. Deirdre O’Brien, who is both head of Apple’s HR department and its retail chief, told Fast Company. “What we find a lot of times is people are really excited to get back to work. At the same time, [they] feel like they need to make sure things are really stable and successful at home.”
Apple helps adoptive parents too
This offer of 4 weeks of flexible work schedule is available to parents who adopt a child as well. That’s on top of 6 weeks of paid leave.
In addition, Apple will help with the cost of adoption with $14,000 of assistance.
