Sonso revealed today that it is coming out with an updated version of its popular Sonos One smart speaker over the next few weeks.
While the new speaker doesn’t feature any design or acoustic changes, it does pack some updated internals that should make it more future-proof.
The second generation Sonos One boasts Bluetooth LE as one of its major new features. Adding Bluetooth LE will the first-time setup of Sonos One easier because it makes communication between your mobile device and the Sonos One quicker.
You’ll also find a faster processor and more memory in the second-gen model. The company hasn’t said how the new internals will be put to use, but future software updates will surely bring some big changes in time.
Sonos says it’s transitioning the second-gen Sonos One to the market. Gen 1 Sonos One speakers have been discounted to $179. The new version is priced at $199. To tell the difference between the two speakers, make sure you buy one that says “Gen 2″ on the box and the speaker itself.
AirPlay 2 support was added to the Sonos One this year. Some of Sonos’ older speakers were too underpowered to support the feature though. Sonos said it also plans to bring Google Assistant to the Sonos One and Sonos Beam later this year.
