A new version of the Eve Weather Connected Weather Station supports the Matter home-automation standard even as the company maintains a HomeKit-only version for those without a Matter hub, Eve Systems said Thursday. Eve Weather keeps you informed of conditions outside and can interact with HomeKit and other platforms to set automations. That could include adjusting the thermostat and turning on lights, or even telling Siri to do so.

Eve Weather Connected Weather Station now supports Matter home-automation standard

For Apple users looking to expand their HomeKit setup, the Eve Weather offers a versatile solution. It can work as a standalone HomeKit device or as part of a broader Matter-enabled smart home system, providing valuable weather data to enhance home automations and daily routines.

The Eve Weather Connected Weather Station continues to offer its signature large display, showing outdoor temperature, humidity levels and a 12-hour forecast, including weather conditions. However. The addition of Matter support expands its functionality.

That’s because the Matter integration means even smoother operation within the HomeKit and other smart-home ecosystem. Users can now create more sophisticated automations using the Eve Weather’s sensors in conjunction with other Matter-compatible devices. For instance, HomeKit can use the weather data to trigger actions like adjusting smart thermostats, controlling smart blinds or activating irrigation systems based on temperature and humidity readings.

The device’s Matter compatibility also ensures future-proofing for HomeKit users, as Apple continues to embrace the Matter standard. So as HomeKit evolves, Eve Weather will likely maintain easy integration and potentially gain new features.

No Matter hub? No problem.

If you lack a Matter-enabled hub like Apple TV or HomePod, you can still buy the original HomeKit version of Eve Weather. Importantly for existing users, Eve has confirmed that the previous HomeKit-only version of Eve Weather will receive Matter support via an over-the-air firmware update. This update will be available for devices purchased after 2021, which use the Thread protocol.

The updated Eve Weather retains its compact size (2.1 x 2.1 x 0.6 inches) and IPX4 water resistance rating, making it suitable for outdoor use in various weather conditions. It’s priced at $79.95, the same regular price as the previous HomeKit-only version, though currently the HomeKit version lists for $69.95.
