Some computer setups just seem to have it all. Today’s featured workstation sports a new M3 Pro MacBook Pro with hefty amounts of memory and storage, plus a speedy Thunderbolt 4 dock connected to a well-curated selection of peripherals. Even the gear stands and furniture are especially nice.

Loaded M3 MacBook Pro powers perfect workstation

Redditor rrogersca (“Rogers”) showcased the unusually complete and great-looking setup in a post entitled, “New M3 MacBook Pro 16.”

They recently acquired a new 16-inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro. Though it includes the middleweight M3 Pro chip rather than the heavyweight M3 Max, the machine is loaded with 36GB unified memory and a 1TB SSD for storage that should future-proof it for a few years (maximum specs would be 128GB/8TB, which adds $3,400 to the $3,099 price).

It’s a marvelous laptop that can function as a desktop machine, of course. Rogers keeps the laptop open on a stand, functioning as a secondary display. The laptop rocks a 12-core CPU and 18-core GPU, delivering killer performance for demanding workflows. If they take the slim machine on the go, they can count on up to 22 hours of battery life.

The 16.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display features Extreme Dynamic Range, over 1000 nits of brightness for stunning HDR content, up to 600 nits of brightness for SDR content as well as pro reference modes.

Razer Thunderbolt 4 docking station

Rogers connects the powerful laptop to a wonderful array of peripherals through a Razer Thunderbolt 4 docking station driving a 34-inch BenQ PD3420Q  Ultrawide Monitor with a BenQ Screenbar Monitor Light on top.

The docking station is formidable, able to work with any USB connectivity but providing blazing fast data transfer speeds for Thunderbolt 3 and especially Thunderbolt 4 connectivity.

Features:

  • Thunderbolt 4 certified: Fully compatible with Thunderbolt 4 devices providing 40 Gbps connections, USB4 compliance, laptop charging via one port and ability to wake your laptop from sleep using peripherals connected to the dock.
  • 10 ports in one: Packed with 4x Thunderbolt 4 ports (1 upstream and 3 downstream), Gigabit Ethernet, 3.5 mm audio combo jack, UHS-II SD card slot (SD 4.0) and 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports to connect devices.
  • Dual monitor support: Access 2x 4K 60Hz displays (Intel Mac), 1x 4K 60Hz display (M1 Mac) with 1 Thunderbolt 4 cable.
  • Future-proof and backward-compatible: Thunderbolt 4 PCs, Thunderbolt 3 Macs w/OS11. Razer Chroma customization not supported on macOS.
  • Pass-through charging: Keep your USB-C powered laptop topped off at all times using the dock’s built-in feature to charge your system while simultaneously powering all other connected devices.

We’ll look more closely at gear in this M3 MacBook Pro setup in upcoming posts.
