The just-launched Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Apple TV 4K makes it easy to hold FaceTime calls with Apple’s set-top box. It magnetically holds an iPhone so its cameras point toward the user.

Video-chat capability is built into Apple’s set-top box — the mount just makes it simpler.

Apple TV 4K became a more versatile living room device when tvOS 17 brought support for FaceTime. Although the video streamer comes with no camera of its own, it can use an iPhone’s, thanks to the magic of Apple’s Continuity Camera system. This allows the top-quality rear-facing cameras built into an iPhone to be used with a Mac or Apple TV.

And that’s where Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Apple TV 4K comes in. It clips to the top of a TV screen and holds the handset during video calls. An included mounting bracket promises added stability.

Because the connection between the iPhone and the mount is magnetic, the camera can be easily flipped between portrait and landscape orientation. A hinge allows the cameras to tilt up or down.

Belkin’s new accessory doesn’t have to sit atop the TV screen, though. It can be configured as a stand.

To be clear, the mount doesn’t charge the iPhone. But it also doesn’t block the handset’s USB-C/Lightning port, so the user can plug in a charging cable.

And it isn’t only useful for FaceTime. Continuity Camera also supports Webex and Zoom, plus Apple Music Sing.

Cult of Mac reviewed an earlier version released for Mac desktops and displays. It was also sold by the Apple store, though it’s listed as “currently unavailable.” That said, the two products seem very, very similar.
