Apple could reportedly rebrand Apple ID to Apple Account. The change could go live later this year, presumably when iOS 18 drops in September.

It’s unclear why Apple is considering renaming Apple ID to Apple Account.

Apple ID might get a new name

You must have an Apple ID to use an iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, or other devices. The ID acts as a bridge between all your devices and keeps them in sync. This includes services like Apple Pay, Wallet, and Apple Music. An Apple ID is also needed to access iCloud and its other services, like iCloud+ and iCloud Drive.

“Apple is experimenting with the new Apple Account name, and it could be introduced as soon as this year,” reveals a MacRumors report citing sources familiar with Apple’s internal working. Apple will “replace existing mentions of “‌Apple ID‌” with “Apple Account” as a means of rebranding the feature.”

Apple’s plans are not yet finalized

If Apple goes ahead with the name change, expect iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and the next macOS release to refer to Apple ID as Apple Account. The Apple ID page could get a makeover as a part of the rebrand. This can make accessing all your information linked to the account easier. It’s unclear if Apple Account will gain new features as a part of this name change.

All this is speculation for now, though. Only time will tell if Apple even goes ahead with this renaming exercise. Any announcement could come at WWDC 2024 in June or during the iOS 18 reveal in September. Its also possible that Apple ends up sticking to the Apple Account branding internally.

With WWDC and iOS 18’s official release a few months away, we might hear more about the Apple Account rebranding in the coming weeks.
