Apple invited the world to a product-launch event on October 30. And the invitation strongly suggests that new Macs will be on the agenda.

It’s not surprising — leaks coming out of Cupertino already said the event will bring updated MacBooks and an iMac.

Why to expect Mac-centric Apple event on October 30

People love to examine Apple’s event invites looking for hints of what will be unveiled. And there have been plenty of times the Mac-maker didn’t do any such thing. But this time the tip-off seems fairly blatant.

To see the clue about what’s coming next week, go to the official Apple Events page. You’ll see the Apple logo. What a few seconds and it morphs into the human face used for the Mac’s Finder (see the image above).

That face isn’t used on any other computer, like iPhone or iPad. It’s a Mac exclusive. The fact that the face is in the invitation seems to be a very broad intimation that Macs are on Apple’s agenda for October 30.

What we’re expecting

So far, no tipster has been able to leak every macOS models set to be announced next week. But there are some strong candidates.

Apple’s all-in-one iMac desktop hasn’t been updated since 2021 when it got a slim design and an M1 processor. There’s quite a bit of expectation that the wait for a replacement with a faster processor is almost over. According to leaks, the next model is another 24-inch one, with a 32-inch iteration not coming before 2024 or 2025.

It’s been suggested before that speed-increased high-end MacBook Pro models are also a possibility for the Apple October 2023 event. And analyst Ming-Chi Kuo with TF International Securities predicted Tuesday that, “I believe M3 series MacBook Pro will be Oct 30th media event’s focus”

If new MBP versions are really on the agenda, then Apple won’t have much choice but to unveiled the full Apple M3 family of processors. The current versions of its premier notebooks already run the fastest, most power-draining versions of the M2 family a mobile computer can handle. New chips would bring even better performance while lengthening battery life.

So the 2023 iMac might use the basic M3 while the MacBook Pro models could use the M3 Pro and M3 Max. That said, introducing the Pro and Max versions of a processor family at the same time as the entry-level version would be an unprecedented move for Apple.

We’ll know for certain when Tim Cook and co. take to the stage at the October event.
