Apple TV+ dropped a teaser trailer Thursday for the upcoming drama series Lessons in Chemistry, starring Oscar-winner Brie Larson. She plays a frustrated young scientist in the early 1950s who gets fired from a lab, takes a job as host of a TV cooking show and “sets out to teach … a lot more than recipes,” according to the streaming service.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, the new series debuts this fall, Apple TV+ said.

TV host Brie Larson torches patriarchy in Lessons in Chemistry trailer

The trailer, below, opens on the book’s cover while an upbeat 1950s tune plays. As quick scene snippets unfold, Larson‘s character appears to do well in her work. A male colleague she meets over lunch says, “You’re one of the smartest people in this lab.”

They dance in an apartment. Then Larson’s character buddies up with a dog (who might just be a metaphor for men). “Are you hungry, little fellah?” Larson asks, feeding him. Then he follows her around.

Right after that Larson is shown on the set of the TV cooking show as a little girl at home watches with rapt attention with her similar dog. The trailer ends with Larson staring into the camera and saying, “Welcome viewers, my name is Elizabeth Zott, and this is Supper at Six.” An audience of women cheers.

It’s a short trailer, just 35 seconds or so.

Larson (Captain Marvel, Room) both stars in and executive produces the show. Apple TV+ described it this way:

Set in the early 1950s, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes.

A previous leak of the show’s description included more detail, saying Larson’s character is fired from the lab after getting pregnant.
