A computer setup sporting a Mac Studio desktop computer and two Studio Displays is a marvel to be envied. And yet, the two gorgeous displays in today’s featured workstation present some problems, believe it or not.

They make the user wish Apple would just make a widescreen monitor.

Dual Studio Displays in Mac Studio setup present some problems

Redditor mcaputo203 showcased the enviable setup in a post entitled, “Mac Studio w/two displays.” He runs a Mac Studio with a pair of Studio Displays side-by-side on a Grovemade Desk Shelf.

“Here are a few tidbits if you’re considering multiple Studio Displays,” Caputo said, presenting his issues with the dual screens:

  • The seam between the two monitors is very noticeable in everyday use.
  • Two studio displays are too heavy for the Grovemade desk shelf and will likely sag (I have it braced by two books).
  • I wish Apple would have made a widescreen monitor.

So the two displays’ bezels meeting in the middle are no fun and the two monitors together are darned heavy.

“I love the Studio Display’s aesthetics and panel, but the lack of various ports and the fact that it’s only 27 inches puts me off getting it,” a commenter lamented.

“I didn’t think the seam would bother me as much as it does, and I understand the lack of port perspective,” Caputo replied. “Depending on the use case you’re trying to solve, Thunderbolt isn’t robust enough for everyone’s needs.”

Two BenQ monitor light bars, one controller

A commenter asked if Caputo has just one controller for the two BenQ Screenbar Halo LED Monitor Lights — one on top of each display — because they saw only one. They thought the second one might be hidden, but Caputo confirmed he pairs just one controller with both lights.

Other showed interest in how that works, so he posted BenQ’s information:

  1. Disconnect the lamp you want to pair with the remote control from its power source.
  2. Ensure that the power indicator is on (the remote control is active) and the remote control is within 1 meter of the ScreenBar Halo.
  3. While holding the Light Mode Switch button, press and hold the My Favorites button for about 5 seconds. You will see the function indicators on the remote control start flashing.
  4. Cover the light sensor (on the reverse side of the light bar) of the lamp you want to pair and then plug in the USB power cord within 15 seconds. If the remote control and the lamp are successfully paired and connected, all the indicators will turn off, and the remote control will enter sleep mode.
