Apple likes the Mophie Speedport 45 enough to put the dual USB-C port wall charger on its online store.

This not surprising: Mophie’s new product offers more power than Apple’s recently launched equivalents, and it costs less.

Mophie Speedport 45 charges MacBook, iPad, iPhone, etc.

The wall charger that Apple includes with most MacBooks is unnecessarily large. And the company doesn’t bundle one with iPhone at all. The Mophie Speedport 45 can deal with both these problems at once.

It offers up to 45 watts of power through its dual USB-C ports. Power is split between the two, allowing a MacBook and iPhone to be charged at once.

The Speedport 45 is smaller than Apple’s old chargers because it uses gallium nitride semiconductors. “GaN technology increases charging efficiency and speed, so you get a lot of power in a compact cube that fits easily in your bag or pocket,” says Mophie.

It’s 1.9 inches by 1.8 inches by 1.1 inches. The power prongs fold down for increased portability.

The Mophie Speedport 45 is available now through the Apple online store for $49.95.

Mophie GaN wall charger versus Apple GaN wall chargers

Apple launched its own dual-port USB-C chargers in June. These also use GaN for a small size, but Mophie’s offering has a couple of advantages.

Apple’s version comes in two sizes, but both offer 35W of power – not 45W. And no matter the size, the cost is $59. That’s $10.05 more than the Speedport 45.
