Got a broken Apple device that needs fixing? The Apple Support app has begun showing repair cost estimates in some locations, giving customers an idea of how much they’re going to have to cough up before they book in.

The estimates appear to be available for “common repair topics” — like replacing broken displays and back panels, or swapping out old batteries — for the most popular iPhone and iPad models in use today.

Apple Support adds repair cost estimates

Having to get your iPhone or iPad repaired isn’t fun — or cheap. But Apple has taken some of the pain out of it by making its estimated costs easier to see when you look for repair options inside the Apple Support app.

To see roughly how much you’ll be paying, select the device that needs fixing in Apple Support, then choose Repairs & Physical Damage. You’ll be presented with a list of common repair options — select the one you need.

Price estimates aren’t available for all repairs, likely because the cost of fixing more complicated things, such as liquid damage or a broken camera, can vary so much. But they are there for common fixes, like getting a new screen.

It’s also worth noting that repair cost estimates are only available in “select locations,” Apple says. We’re able to see them in the U.S., while some options are also appearing in the U.K.

Tell Apple what’s up

The latest update to the Apple Support app also bring performance improvements and allows customers to tell Apple “what’s happening in your own words” right after selecting the device you’re having trouble with.

This feature was there before, but you couldn’t get to it unless you selected a specific repair option first. Making available earlier in the process will be helpful to those who aren’t sure which repair option they require.
