Apple is said to be close to securing its first original movie of 2022. The company is in negotiations to acquire a Formula One film that stars Brad Pitt as a racing driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a young teammate.
The movie, which will be directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer — who are working together on Top Gun: Maverick — is worth around $140 million, according to a Monday report.
Apple TV+ close to securing new Brad Pitt movie
Pitt already has a relationship with Apple after the company picked up an untitled thriller starring Pitt and George Clooney last fall. Now, it seems the Hollywood star will be an even bigger presence on Apple TV+Apple TV+.
Cupertino is close to acquiring “an untitled pitch package that will have Brad Pitt playing a racer who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver and take his final stab at glory on the track,” reports Deadline.
Ehren Kruger, who also worked on Top Gun: Maverick, is said to be writing the script. British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, who has won seven championships to date, is also involved in the movie’s development.
Apple beats out other platforms
As you might expect, Apple wasn’t the only company interested in a movie starring Pitt. Amazon, Netflix, Paramount, MGM, Sony, and Universal were also “all over it” when the package was taken to market last week.
It’s not yet clear when the movie is scheduled to hit Apple TV+, but given that filming is yet to start, it’s likely to be a couple of years away.
