Apple TV 4K is more affordable than ever
It might not be the newest Apple TV anymore, but the previous 4K model remains a stellar set-top box for anyone who wants to enjoy super-sharp content from their favorite streaming services and tvOS apps. It also can act as a HomeKit hub for compatible smart home devices.
Until the 2021 Apple TV arrived in May, the previous 4K model still sold for $179. The last-generation devices, still sealed in their original packaging and backed by a one-year Apple warranty, are now available for just $109 for the 32GB model. If you want more storage, you can pick up the 64GB model for just $129. Both models come with three months of free Apple TV+ for new subscribers.
In addition to offering thousands of great tvOS apps, Apple TV 4K supports 4K high dynamic range content, with Dolby Vision and HDR10 support, as well as Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound.
The device is powered by a speedy A10X Fusion chip, and ships with an old-school Siri Remote that lets you find your favorite movies, TV shows, music and more using your voice.
Save on Apple TV 4K
One caveat: If you’re dying for Apple’s upgraded Siri Remote, which comes with all current Apple TV models, this deal probably isn’t for you. Those go for $59 a pop, so you should probably just bite the bullet and buy the 2021 Apple TV 4K, which lists for $179.
However, if all you want is a set-top box to stream all your favorite content, the previous-gen Apple TV will get the job done and save you some cash. (You can always pick up a Function 101 Button Remote for Apple TV to make your experience less inscrutable.)
