The six-part series will be based on James Keene and Hillel Levin’s 2010 book of the same name. It tells the story of Keene, a convicted drug dealer, who was asked to befriend a murderer in prison in order to link him to a series of unsolved killings. In exchange for taking on the undercover assignment, Keene was promised that he would be released.
Hauser reportedly will play the killer, while Egerton will portray Keene. It’s being written and executive-produced by Dennis Lehane, who authored the books (later turned into movies) Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island. Michaël R. Roskam (The Drop) will direct.
There’s no word on when the series will commence shooting or be released. Given that production challenges persist due to COVID-19, and the length of time it takes to shoot a series, it seems unlikely that this will arrive until the end of 2021 at the earliest.
Apple TV+ continues to sign big stars to act in its shows. Recently, it signed Brie Larson of Captain Marvel fame to star in a new show called Lessons in Chemistry.
This isn’t the first time that Egerton will appear in an Apple Original, either. He also will star in an Apple TV+ movie about the classic video game Tetris.
