Apple TV+ on Tuesday unveiled High Desert, an upcoming half-hour comedy series to star Patricia Arquette, winner of several Academy, Golden Globe and Emmy awards.

Fellow comedian Ben Stiller will direct the first episode. Both Arquette and Stiller will serve as executive producers, too.

Arquette takes on the role of Peggy, a former addict who makes a new start after the death of her mother. Her life-changing decision is to become a private investigator.

High Desert is created and written by Nancy Fichman (Nurse Jackie, Damages), Katie Ford (Miss Congeniality) and Jennifer Hoppe (Grace and Frankie, Nurse Jackie, Damages).

Arquette and Stiller are already working with Apple on Severance, an upcoming workplace thriller also starring Arquette.

More Apple TV+ comedies

Apple’s streaming video service, which launched last autumn, currently offers four comedies: Central Park, Ted Lasso, Trying and Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. All have been well-received by critics.

Apple TV+ costs $4.99 a month, and includes access to these shows and a couple dozen more. They can be watched on Apple devices as well as many others, like Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
