Plugable decided to stand out in the crowded market for USB-C multiport adapters with a low-price offering. On Tuesday, it unveiled a 7-in-1 Hub that comes in at a significantly lower cost than many of its rivals.

Even so, it can connect to multiple legacy USB-A accessories, a external monitor and removable memory cards.

Plugable USB-C 7-in-1 Hub offers a range of ports

MacBook and iPad Pro offer only USB-C ports, so adapters are necessary to connect to a range of peripherals. The Plugable USB-C 7-in-1 Hub combines multiple adapters into one, saving space and money.

Its trio of USB 3.0 ports offer 5 Gbps data transfer speeds. In addition, there are SD and microSD card readers.

The hub includes an HDMI 1.4 port so it can drive an external monitor, TV or projector at up to 3840-by-2160 pixels at a 30Hz refresh rate. Or 1080p and lower resolutions provide 60Hz.

A USB-C pass-through charging port supports USB-C power adapters up to 100W, and can transfer up to 87W of charging power to the host.

Beyond Mac and iPadOS, the USB-C hub‌ is compatible with Windows and Linux systems. No drivers are necessary.

“Equipped with updated and latest chipsets on the market, our adapter has been tested and tweaked thoroughly to deliver a ‘it just works’ user experience on compatible USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 laptops,” promises Plugable. “No need to worry about overdrawing power, display flakiness, and other common issues that other USB-C hubs on the market experience.”

Launches ‌at a surprisingly affordable price

Plugable’s 7-in-1 USB-C Hub (USBC-7IN1) debuted Tuesday. It can be found at Amazon for $29.95, with a limited-time $5 launch discount further reducing the price. The hub is also sold through NewEgg, Walmart and eBay.

It’s going up against the Inateck 8-in-1 USB-C Hub ($59.99), or the Twelve South StayGo ($99.99) which also has eight ports. And plenty of other multiport USB-C hubs, of course.
