Yeah, no.

Apple’s never going to bring the Mac Pro’s cheese-grater design to iPhone, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a laugh out of the idea. A cheeky new iPhone 12 XDR Pro concept video shows just how ridiculous that would look.

It’s short, it’s sweet … and it’s the craziest iPhone concept we’ve seen in a while.

iPhone 12 XDR Pro

The video, posted this week to the Phone Industry YouTube channel, shows a shiny iPhone that will never, ever exist. It features a “recycled aluminium body” pocked with those instantly recognizable Mac Pro ventilation holes. (Try sliding one of those bad boys in your back pocket.)

Here’s the quick clip:

Typically, we here at Cult of Mac love Apple concept art that takes the latest rumors about upcoming products and makes them tangible. We also fall hard for visionary concepts that imagine entirely new features we’d really like Apple to add to future products.

This one takes a different tack. It’s ludicrous on its face — and it ends with a punchline that left us loling. (Some of us, anyway.)

Maybe it’s that gorgeous cheese-grater look — or even the video’s bouncy backing track. But even the numerous typos in the video couldn’t bring me down.

There’s a crazy AirPower concept, too

The folks at Phone Industry seem smitten with the Mac Pro’s distinctive design, too. They also recently created an AirPower-inspired concept that looks just as wacky as the iPhone 12 XDR Pro.

Frankly, the “Power Pro” Apple wireless charging pad looks even more outlandish than the Mac Pro-inspired iPhone. It’s never gonna happen, either. But there’s just something about that cheese-grater design that proves totally mesmerizing. It is one of Apple’s most meme-able products in recent memory, after all.
