Fortnite’s newest update is rolling out now across all platforms, bringing with it some big changes and new game modes. Players can expect aim assist adjustments, heavy sniper alterations, and brand-new Party Royale.

And that’s not all!

Epic Games confirmed earlier this month that we’ll have to wait longer for Fortnite chapter two, season three. It also promised, however, that fans could look forward to further changes and new content in season two.

That’s exactly what we’re getting in today’s version 12.50 patch, with several tweaks and new game modes to enjoy.

Fortnite 12.50 aim assist changes

One of the biggest changes in this release is to aim assist — a feature that has fueled so much controversy in recent months. Players no longer get a greater aim assist advantage when using a controller on Mac or PC at high frame rates.

“This build includes an [aim assist] change which makes 240hz AA act like 60hz AA, which does impact target acquisition,” Epic explained in an email to content creators. “Investigations and tests are ongoing regarding aim assist.”

The change not only levels the playing field among controller users (those on PC now get exactly aim assist as those on console), but it could ease concerns from keyboard and mouse users who believe aim assist is far too strong.

Other tweaks and new game modes

The 12.50 patch also “retunes” the amount of damage dealt by heavy snipers. Epic did not elaborate on that, so we don’t yet know what changes have been made exactly. But it’s likely heavy sniper damage has been reduced.

This update isn’t all about tweaks. Fortnite is also getting a brand-new game mode called Party Royale, in which players will “leave your weapons and mats behind.” Tests for this mode start Friday at 9 p.m. EST.

Finally, there’s a new spy mode called Operation: Payload:

Use your current spy tech, as well as new tech in this release, to defend/escort the payload against the other team which tries to stop you — then switch sides. The mode takes you to different parts of the island.

You can download Fortnite 12.50 across all platforms — including Mac and iOS — now to enjoy these changes.
