Those who pre-ordered an iPhone SE last week started receiving their handsets today, but Apple sold out of its supply. Orders placed Friday for this $399 handset won’t arrive for over two weeks.
The latest iOS handset is backordered in the U.S. and in countries around the world.
iPhone SE backordered for weeks
Place an order on the U.S. Apple Store for the 2020 iPhone SE on Friday, and it’ll be delivered between May 12 and May 19. Cult of Mac checked on a variety of casing colors, storage capacities, and wireless carries, and the Apple Store says none of them will arrive before May 12.
The situation is slightly better in Canada. Shoppers on Apple.com in that country are told the new budget iOS device will ship in “1-2 weeks.”
The iPhone SE is also backordered from Apple in the U.K. Orders placed there will be delivered between May 4 and May 12. Apple is also out of its launch-day supply in France, Germany, Australia… every country Cult of Mac checked.
More about Apple’s latest
From the outside, the 2020 iPhone SE is identical to the now-discontinued iPhone 8. There’s a 4.7-inch screen, a Home button, Touch ID and a 12MP camera. But on the inside is the cutting-edge Apple A13 processor as in the iPhone 11 series.
The refreshed iPhone SE starts at $399 with 64GB of storage, while 128GB and 256GB options are also available for $449 and $549, respectively. Available color options include black, white, and (PRODUCT)RED.
