There aren’t too many businesses that are thriving right now, but mobile games in the App Store certainly appear to be one of the outliers. Provided that you’re among the top titles, that is!
With many people stuck at home due to COVID-19 lockdown, a Tuesday report from GoldenCasinoNews claims that the top five games in the U.S. App Store hit $9.7 million in daily revenue in April. The leader of the pack right now is the ultra-popular Roblox Mobile, which is raking in approximately $2.7 million daily.
Fortnite ranked as the second-highest-grossing app in the United States during the month. The popular battle-royale titled pulled in daily revenue of $2.3 million. In third place, Candy Crush Saga raked in a sweet $1.8 million in daily revenue. After that, village-building game Coin Master reportedly brought in $1.7 million per day. In fifth place, PUBG Mobile made around $1.4 million daily.
All of these games have been around for a while. They’re also all free-to-play games, reliant on in-app purchases for their earnings.
It’s no great surprise that games would be triumphing in the App Store right now. Games always come in as the top category in terms of downloads and user spending. Right now, with everyone stuck home, it makes even more sense that people would pour their time into gaming. This latest report backs up another recent one. According to app analytics platform Sensor Tower, game downloads on the App Store hit almost 3 billion in 2020’s first quarter. For the past 10 quarters, game installs hovered somewhere between 2 billion and 2.5 billion.
