This week we calm ourself with Looom’s animations, get glitchy with the GlitchCore music chopper, capture time-lapses with Moment, and more.
GlitchCore

GlitchCore takes a live audio stream, and then chops it up into glitchy rhythms. You can also loop the incoming sounds, and even play live input backward. It’s pretty wild, and insanely useful as an idea-generating tool. Works as an AUv3 audio unit in supporting iOS apps.

Pro Camera by Moment

Moment’s Pro Camera app now does time-lapse videos, and it offers way more control than you get from the built-in iPhone Camera app. The photographer can “pick the intervals, number of shots, type of blur and length,” says Cult of Mac’s own Buster Hein. It even has a feature that tells you how long your time-lapse will take.

Duolingo ABC – Learn to Read

“It’s ABC, as easy as 1,2,3,” sang the Jackson 5. Which is probably true, in that they’re both extremely difficult to master, and are both rather abstract constructs. It’s amazing kids manage either of them, which is why something like DuoLingo ABC is welcome. The app delivers more than 300 lessons, free, to help kids ages 3 through 6 learn to read.

Looom

Loom is an app for making ambient animations. You could probably force it to show a cat killing a mouse with a frying pan (or at least trying to), but it seems more geared toward endless looping, cascading patterns — kind of like a visual Brian Eno track. Good for making much videos, entertaining kids and adults, or just for relaxing.
