Call of Duty: Mobile loses its Zombies mode because it’s not good enough

Call of Duty: Mobile is losing its popular Zombies mode this month because it doesn’t meet the “level of quality” Activision expects.

It’s unclear whether Zombies, which was added last November, will return at a later date. The game’s developers are currently focused on more important aspects of Call of Duty: Mobile, like Multiplayer, Battle Royale, and Ranked Mode.

Zombies has been a stable of the Call of Duty franchise over the years. It has mostly appeared in titles developed by Treyarch, such as Black Ops 4, and has been incredibly popular among fans.

So popular, in fact, that Zombies once got its very own spin-off for iPhone and iPad. Sadly, that was scrapped in 2018, and now the Zombies mode inside CoD: Mobile is getting the same treatment.

Call of Duty Zombies is getting the boot

“Today, after extensive evaluation we are sharing that ZOMBIES Mode is being removed on March 25th,” Activision confirmed in a Reddit update published on Thursday.

“We had always mentioned it was limited but with no explicit end-date. We wanted to see the reception, see the feedback, and see how we can potentially shape the mode for the future.”

Activision added that Zombies “just didn’t reach the level of quality that we desire.”

There had been complaints about Zombies from the CoD: Mobile community, and it wasn’t getting the same level of attention that more popular game modes were seeing from developers.

Will Zombies come back from the dead?

Activision says that for now, it is focused on development of Multiplayer, Battle Royale, and Ranked Mode. In other words, it has no plans to make improvements to Zombies at this time.

It won’t rule out dropping Zombies permanently. “We may bring the mode back … once we can make sure it is high enough quality,” the post reads, but it is clearly not a priority right now.
