This week we keep old folks safe, brew perfectly measured coffee, celebrate Photoshop’s 30th anniversary, and complain about SoundCloud.

Photoshop for iPad got a nice update for the groundbreaking software’s 30th birthday. This version brings type tools and object selection to the quintessential photo editor. The latter uses Adobe’s Sensei AI tech to pick objects out of your image, while the former brings a lot more of desktop Photoshop’s type tools to the iPad.

Sponsored: If you’re an older, independent adult who wants to stay that way, DooriGo is worth checking out. And if you’re the son/daughter/younger friend of a fiercely independent senior citizen, then you might also like this app. It sends regular messages to the user. If they don’t reply within six to 72 hours, emails go out to emergency contacts.

Simple Ratio

How could it get any simpler?

Simple Ratio is a great — and super-simple — app for coffee nerds. Did you ever struggle with doubling your recipe? No, probably not, but Simple Ratio lets you get way more complex than that.

The app calculates the correct ratio of ground coffee to water. You can adjust any of the parameters, and the other one changes automatically. That’s it. You swipe the screen to spin the dials, and the iPhone version utilizes subtle haptic feedback. Nice and simple.
