An estimated 12,000 people can comfortably work together in Apple Park. But Apple’s a big company — and 12,000 people is only a drop in the ocean.

For that reason, Apple has leased six floors in a nearby office building, just six minutes’ drive from its enormous circular headquarters at One Apple Park Way.

According to The Mercury News, Apple leased all six floors of the Triangle Building offices in San Jose, close to Apple Park. Constructed in 1981, the 86,000-square-foot building is located along Interstate 280. Apple previously leased one part of the building in 2012. Other tenants included Merrill Lynch, Ansot, Freescale, Caymas and Playphone. However, Apple is now the only company on the site.

“Apple is a very strong company and they are continuing to expand their operations locally,” said David Sandlin, an executive vice president with Colliers International, a commercial real estate firm.

The exact terms of the lease are not clear. According to property info site Compstak, the building was last sold in 2013 to its current landlord — for an estimated $40-$50 million. Apple has not revealed how many people will be working in the new building. Or, unfortunately, what they will be doing for Apple.
