Apple has changed its home page for Veterans Day, paying tribute to those who fight to keep America free.
Its home page features a banner reading: “Here’s to the brave ones. We’re proud to honor America’s veterans and service members this Veterans Day and every day.” It links to a webpage with a reminder of Apple’s 10% discount for vets.
The “Here’s to the brave ones” line is a reference to a line from Apple’s iconic 1997 “Think Different” ad. Despite having been phased out long ago, the ad remains one of Apple’s most famous commercials of all time.
Apple introduced its 10% discount to vets in late 2018. It offers a similar discount to students and teachers. “At Apple we are deeply grateful to the men and women of our armed forces,” Apple said in a statement at the time. “We’re proud to offer active military and veterans a new dedicated online store with special pricing as an expression of our gratitude for their brave service”.
Veterans Day
Switching its home page isn’t the only change Apple has made to commemorate Veterans Day. For today only you can earn a Veterans Day badge through the Apple Watch Activity challenge. To pick up the badge, you’ll need to complete a workout of 11 minutes or more that day.
Apple also recently teamed up with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to give veterans a better way of checking their health records on iPhone.
In addition, Apple has published an article through its Newsroom about how the guided meditations on how the Healium AR Apple Watch app is used by Steve Mills, a commander in the US Navy. The app combines story-driven mediations and game design with the heart rate-tracking features of the Apple Watch.
Happy Veterans Day, everyone! And, for any vets reading this, thank you for your service.
