Sayonara Wild Hearts, one of the Apple Arcade titles Apple showcased at its recent iPhone 11 event, is getting a soundtrack release — on vinyl.

Because, you know, listening to music on Apple Music is totes mainstream, y’all!

All kidding aside, I think it’s a pretty awesome move. I’m a big soundtrack fan, and it’s great to see a game soundtrack afforded the prestige of a proper release. While I’m sure people can correct in the comments, here in the West I don’t typically see that happen in the same way that it does in, say, Japan.

Sayonara Wild Hearts is a mobile exclusive to Apple Arcade. (Although it’s also available on Switch and PS4.) It’s an on-rails game in which players sprint, fly or drive through levels, dodging obstacles, leaping onto platforms, battling enemies, and collecting hearts. All of which is accompanied by a brilliant vibrant pop soundtrack from artists including Daniel Olsén, Jonathan Eng, and Linnea Olsson.

The double LP promises “180-Gram Premium Grade Audiophile Vinyl,” complete with stylish cover art and holographic foil stamped gatefold packaging. It won’t be shipping until early next year, although that could turn out for the best as it will give you longer to fall in love with the game. You can pre-order the vinyl album here for $39.99.

Apple Arcade is now officially up and running, meaning that you can take Sayonara Wild Hearts for a spin. It’s available as a separate tab in the App Store. Apple Arcade will set you back $4.99 per month. Check out Cult of Mac‘s first impressions review of it here.
