Thieves robbed the Apple Store in Valencia, California, at gunpoint Wednesday morning.
As customers shopped shortly before 11 a.m., three male suspects entered Apple Valencia Town Center and “began grabbing merchandise,” including iPhones and Apple Watches, police said. One of the suspects brandished a firearm before the gang fled.
They left the scene in a gray Honda civic driven by a fourth suspect. “It is unknown how much merchandise they took right now, but no employees were injured,” Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station spokesperson Shirley Miller said.
Sheriff’s deputies gathered accounts from witnesses at the store, located on West Valencia Boulevard in Southern California. They continue to pore over surveillance footage for information on the crime. The quantity and value of the stolen goods remains unclear.
“It is unknown how much merchandise they took right now, but no employees were injured,” Miller said.
Apple stores: A target for thieves
Apple stores, unfortunately, become targets for theft relatively frequent. Last year, a spate of Apple store robberies took place in California. These resulted in the theft of more than $1 million worth of devices. In one instance, thieves hit the Apple store in Palo Alto twice over the course of a weekend. Police arrested a gang of 17 people.
Despite this, Apple store robberies involving armed thieves remain somewhat rare.
