Nothing ruins a good movie like sound that’s completely out of sync. But thanks to iOS 13 and tvOS 13, you will no longer have to suffer that when watching video on your Apple TV.
A new feature lets you synchronize wireless audio devices so they’re perfectly matched.
Unsynchronized audio is a common problem when using wireless speakers, and it’s incredibly difficult to ignore. It’s most noticeable when someone is speaking on-screen, and their lips move ahead of the audio.
In most cases this problem is intermittent — sometimes everything is in sync just fine, and other times there is obvious lag in the audio. And that’s even more frustrating because you never know when it’s going to work properly.
The good news is that it will soon be incredibly easy to fix audio sync issues on Apple TV.
iOS 13 eliminates wireless audio issues
When iOS 13 and tvOS 13 roll out to everyone this fall, you’ll be able to use your iPhone or iPad to fix unsynchronized audio on Apple TV.
It works by using your iOS device to listen to tones played through your speakers. The feature calculates the time it takes to hear audio after your Apple TV plays it, then adjusts your settings accordingly.
You can start the synchronization process in the settings menu on your Apple TV. A notification will then pop up on your iOS device and you continue the process there.
Get your hands on it this fall
iOS 13 and tvOS 13 will be available to everyone in September. Registered developers can get their hands on the second betas today, and a public beta should be offered next month.
