Microsoft is bringing its brand new Edge browser to macOS “soon,” but you don’t have to wait any longer to get your hands on an early version.
Both Canary and Developer builds are now available to Mac users. You won’t want to use them for everyday browsing, but they’re great for getting an early taste of Edge ahead of its official debut.
Microsoft offered its first preview of Edge for macOS during its annual Build conference on Monday, while Windows 10 users have been able to download preview releases for several weeks.
We thought macOS users might have to wait for the official launch — there is no date for that yet — but links to early Canary and Developer builds for Mac have been leaked.
Microsoft Edge for macOS
These builds give testers an opportunity to try out Edge ahead of its official release. Later, they will also allow you to sample upcoming features before they are introduced to stable releases.
The new Edge promises to be fast and reliable, and will pack interesting features like privacy controls. It will also boast a unique Collections tool, which will let you save and organize your favorite content from across the web.
The new Edge is also built on Chromium — the same platform behind Google’s own Chrome browser.
It’s just a taster
Because these are early releases, you shouldn’t expect them to be completely reliable. You certainly won’t be replacing your existing browser with Edge just yet.
