The first wave of iPhone XR reviews are in and based on the early impressions, Apple may have a big hit on its hands.

iPhone XR preorders open up at midnight tonight and Apple’s making a big push to get people to upgrade to its cheapest new handset. Instead of just going with traditional news outlets, Apple also gave early iPhone XR units to popular YouTubers, probably in an effort to reach a younger audience.

So far, everyone’s raving about the iPhone XR, even if it is lacking a few features.

Better Portrait mode than the iPhone XS?

Even though it doesn’t have two lenses on the back, the iPhone XR can do Portrait Mode just like the iPhone XS and Max. YouTuber Sara Dietschy points out that the Portrait Mode on iPhone XR allows you to capture a larger field of view than on the XS and XS Max. This is because the iPhone XR only uses a wide angle lens on the back, whereas Portrait Mode on the XS and XS Max use the telephoto lens, requiring you to step back a bit.

It feels like a flagship phone

Even though the iPhone XR is the cheapest model in this year’s fleet, YouTuber Tyler Stalman says it still feels like a flagship phone. The colors are more vibrant in person than you’d expect and when it comes to the features Apple skimped on, you probably won’t notice.

The Screen is great

While the iPhone XS and XS Max pack OLED displays, Apple went with an LCD Liquid Retina display on the iPhone XR. Measuring at 6.1-inches on the diagonal, it has a lower resolution than the iPhone XS, but SuperSaf TV says if you’re coming from an iPhone 7 or iPhone 8 you won’t notice a difference.

The best iPhone for most people

If you don’t care about having the absolute best iPhone, the iPhone XR is the phone for you, says Mashable’s tech editor in their video. No telephoto lens on the back hampers Portrait Mode on the iPhone XR because it only works on faces. Most people won’t care about that though and overall the iPhone XR is nearly just as good as the iPhone XS and XS Max.
